After what seemed like a short life-span, HP are getting rid of webOS as well as their PC manufacturing parts.

Its a great shame as webOS was a very nice system. I suspect the lacklustre reviews of the Tablet helped push HP away from continuing with webOS, which, in a way is their own fault.

I’ll probably be putting the full version of Spots : TNG onto the catalogue store fairly soon, and then try and sell my Pre 2

Now waiting for HP to review my first paid-for webOS application. All it does is load the PDF viewer (with my book) and exit the GLBasic program. That in itself may cause a problem as it uses one program (which exits straight away) to boot another…

App Reviews

This is a little whinge about those leaving “reviews” (if you can actually call them that), about Apps they have downloaded. I can only take about Palm/HP webOS and Android ones here, but not doubt the problems I have come across will also occur with the iPod/iPad/iPhone too…

I’ve released (as of the time of writing) three applications for the Android platform and five for webOS, so whilst it isn’t currently a lot, these problems could mount up :

No reviews. This seems to be a particular problem with the Android platform. My three Android programs have had a (meagre) 219 downloads and an even more meagre amount of 1 person reviewing them. Perhaps the programs should remind the user to review the application after quitting or something like that, perhaps ?
Few reviews. My Spots game has had (at the time of writing) 4515 downloads. A mere 12 of those have reviewed the game (0.26% of the total number of users). Again, perhaps more should be done to encourage reviews.
“Stopped installing and can’t do anything with it”. As I mention on my Terms and Conditions page, these sorts of problems cannot be fixed by myself (and they shouldn’t mention it in the review) – only Palm or their network carrier (or even a better WiFi router) can solve the problem. These sort of reviews are of no help and should really be deleted
“[Navigation] is Hard to see navigation and is confusing” (Justin H). This seems a pretty honest review, but unfortunately is about as helpful as a rubber duck. In what way is the Navigation (Menu screen ? Player selection screen ? Main game ?) confusing ? No real help there…
“Application Error” (Carlos G). Wow! That is a helpful review… Application error where ? What were you doing ? Are you actually talking about my game ?
“Pretty Stupid”/”Waste of time” (Tony P/Anonymous). Another set of “helpful reviews” (please note the sarcasm involved). In what was it stupid (or a waste of time) ?
[Spots] “it only talks about where you live” (Lindsay K). By the sound of it, she/he/it is obviously a Luddite where technology is concerned… First off Spots doesn’t talk about where you live – it asks you to select a language. In addition, there is a check box (which obviously the user never saw) which you select to de-activate the language selection screen at the next launch of the game. Spots TNG (if it gets finished) now activates this option by default.
“I hate this game I don’t get it” – by the same person. It also seems they didn’t read the included game instructions.

One thing I would like to see is proper moderation of HP webOS reviews to get rid of some of these silly reviews, especially if they involve any operation (installation/remove) that I have no control over.

It would also be nice of perhaps, you could contact the reviewer to get more (useful) information – out of these who played the game, only one person contacted me using the games support email address…

Change of mind time! I will be continuing with AtomZ – after all, it would be a shame to let the main code go to waste, especially if money can be made out of it.
